Chocó Lodge Your Gateway to Ecuadors Most Biodiverse Forest
Located in the lowland Chocó forest, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, Chocó Lodge invites you to experience the wild in its most vibrant form. Located in Esmeraldas Province, at around 300 meters above sea level, this cozy eco-lodge immerses you in a natural symphonybirdsong, cicadas, rustling trees, and the distant calls of monkeys all come together in a chorus unlike any other.
From the moment you arrive, nature welcomes you in full force: three species of monkeys swing through the treetops, and rare and endemic birds of the Chocó become a daily part of the scenery.
At the heart of the lodge, a forest-immersed restaurant invites you to enjoy delicious local dishes while surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest.
A highlight of your stay is the 35-meter observation tower, a window into the canopys hidden world. From up here, you can marvel at the lush treetop layers and witness the vibrant life that thrives overhead.
We are also proud pioneers in science and conservation. Chocó Lab is the first scientific research station in Ecuadors lowland Chocó, where Fundación Jocotoco develops cutting-edge projects in forest regeneration and innovative conservation strategies for this invaluable natural heritage.
Our lodge features 3 cabins, each with 2 double rooms, providing comfortable accommodation for up to 12 guests in a private and peaceful setting.
We also offer a scientific residence specially designed for students and researchers, equipped with 6 dorm-style rooms that can each host 4 people, allowing for up to 24 occupants. These flexible facilities are perfect for group expeditions, fieldwork, and academic teams.

Nearby Communities
The Canandé Reserve is surrounded by communities that are an integral part of this unique natural environment. Nearby towns include Zapallo, to the east of Quinindé/Rosa Zárate, as well as small villages like Puerto Nuevo, where a barge crosses the Canandé River, La Yuca, located right on the edge of the reserve, and Hoja Blanca. We are also neighbors to indigenous Chachis communities such as Chontaduro, Gualpí, Corriente Grande, and Sabalito. Jocotoco is actively involved in developing ecological, environmental care, and reforestation projects in these communities, offering sustainable economic alternatives through workshops and local entrepreneurship. These efforts ensure that both nature and the local communities continue to thrive in harmony.

At the entrance to Zapallo, take the right-hand detour that leads you to the banks of the Canandé River. There, you must cross by ferry. You will need to pay the ferry fee in cash; the Neimar ferry operates from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On the other side of the river, you are only 40 minutes away from the reserve.
