Buenaventura Reserve

Located in El Oro province, a few kilometers west of the city of Piñas.

Elevation: 650-1300 msnm
Ecosystems: Montane low Evergreen forest
Zoogeographic floor: Subtropical west
Area: 1350 ha.

 

How to get?

If you are coming from the city of Machala, take the road to the city of Piñas. Passing the town of Zaracay, follow the direction to Piñas until you find signs of ‘Balneario Selva Alegre’ and Jocotoco Foundation. From the entrance of this Balneario, there is a dirt road left hand which gives direct access to the reserve. From Selva Alegre to the Umbrellabird Lodge is 5 km. travel.

If you come from Piñas, you must take the road to Zaracay and Macahala. After about 25 minutes of travel, you will find the same way to the Balneario Selva Alegre and from there you should take the detour to the right following the signs of the Jocotoco to access the scenic route, the same that will lead to the Lodge after 57 km.
